Ethnicity and Folklore Culture Tena

The Napo – kichwa or Napo runas base their economy on agriculture, hunting, fishing, the recollection and interchanging of products, and handicrafts, along with ranching and ecotourism.  Their language is Ruina ShimiThe Waorani are exceptional hunters and warriors.  Their socio-economic organization and spiritual world is a sign of their adaptation to the jungle; their language is Wao Terero.  The Huaorani have an elaborate knowledge of the surrounding forest’s plants.  Their crowns and bracelets are decorated with eagle feathers for the protection and strength that this bird is believed to have.  In Misahualli there are shamanic rites, cleansings, medicinal plants, typical dishes, music, dance and legends that are part of the experience that attracts numerous amounts of national and international tourists.

Archidona - Jumandy Caverns Nature Tena

Archidona has the most beautiful landscapes and habitats of the Ecuadorian Amazon.  It has rivers of untold beauty like the: Misahualli Hollin, Calmitoyacu, Inchillaqui, and Jondachi.  Here you can find the Tour Complex of the Jumany Caverns found 2 km from the city of Archidona.  You can see underground water currents and spectacular stalactites.  Archidona counts with the Sumaco National Park which holds the Sumaco Volcano.

 

Misahualli Nature Tena

Misahualli is a place where the sun emerges from the horizon which unites the rivers of Misahualli and Napo, an environment with an immense jungle that captivates and where the sounds of the waters and animals envelop you.  The port of Misahualli is adjacent to a beach that extends almost 50 meters long.  Here you can trek through the jungle, rivers, beaches, lagoons, and waterfalls.  All these locations exhibit splendid fauna, flora, physical beauty, traditions, handicrafts, and all of the culture of the Amazon communities.

Natural Medicine Nature Tena

In Napo you can find plants that are important to modern medicine. The natives go to a shaman to cure their ills.  The shaman is a healer who diagnosis by ingesting the extract of a liana which has hallucinogenic properties.  The shaman starts the cleansing of a patient using smoke and other tools.  At the end of the ceremony the shaman indicates the patient which plants he/she should use.

The Sacred Valley of Cotundo
It is found in the Alto Valley of the Misahualli River.  The petro-glyphs were declared a Cultural Patrimony of Ecuador and are of important nature regarding the aboriginal culture.  The astronomers of Quijos , the Tzantzeros of Cotundo, the Honderos of Misahualli and the Danzantes of Pano are the most distinguished.

The community of Machacuyaku is located in the Amazon region in the humid tropical forest.   As tourism they offer: adventure tourism, cultural cohabitation, agro-tourism, mystic tourism and health tourism.

Capirona.  In the province of Napo in the humid tropical forest.  This community offers: adventure tourism, walks, cultural cohabitation tourism, traditional life, festivals, rituals, games, mingas, agro-tourism, agricultural activities, mystic tourism, shamanism, and scared locations.

Kayak, Rafting, Canyoning Adventure Tena

The most popular sports in this region are rafting and kayaking, especially for those who look for an adrenaline rush in the pure crystalline waters of Napa, Misahualli, Hollin, or the Calmitoyacu.  In Tena there is a large concentration of rivers with the facilities to practice many sports like rafting and kayaking.  There are different routes to take that combine the calm with speed and fun.  You can also ascend the Sumaco volcano which is 3,732, meter tall.  In Tena there are also routes exclusively for canoeing.

The center is 6km from the city and is an institution that promotes the conservation and rescue of animals at risk of extinction with over 60 species present.

In the Sumaco National Park you can find jaguars, mountain lions, nutrias, spectacled bears, multi-colored toucans, tangaras, snakes and a variety of frogs which only count as a sample of the many species that are present at the park.

The Yasuni Biosphere Reserve has an incredible variety of flora and fauna that is in a great state of conservation.    Yasuni is one of the most divers protected areas on the planet when it comes to flora.  Studies of the rich species indicate that the tropical forest reserve is the second most divers in the world.

 

Sumaco and Antisana Volcanoes Tena

Sumaco Volcano. The Sumaco Volcano is one of the most important attractions of the Sumaco Biosphere Reserve and of the Sumaco Napo Galeras National Park and is surely one of the most intense experiences you will have in Ecuador.  This volcano is 3,732 m tall and it has a variety of ecosystems (with 6 climatic levels) where there are unique species of flora and fauna.

Antisana Volcano.  The Antisana is an active volcano and is the 4th highest peak in Ecuador.  Its glaciers are close to the Ecuadorian Amazon.  For this reason it has richer flora and fauna than other mountains in the Andes.  The landscapes are astounding because of the local wildlife and the amount of lakes.  The Andean Condor is visible from this area and you will have a chance to observe this legendary bird better here than from any other part of Ecuador.
