Saraguro is a clear show of ethnicities and folklore. They keep an unalterable cultural heritage through music, clothing, nourishment, etc. The Saraguros have their own attire that distinguishes them from the other Ecuadorian ethnicities. They hold annual religious ceremonies. Close to this area you ca n find caverns that make for a mystical and unusual place that is visited by local and strangers who are always accompanied by people from the area.

The avifauna of the Podocarpus National Park is diverse and some animals that deserve a special mention are the toucan, hummingbird and the rare quetzal. There are more than 889 registered species; among the birds are the band tailed pigeon, eagles, carpenter bird, the bearded guan, parrots, Andean gull, dog bird, the guajalito, zumba and the turdus fuscater. There are spectacular endemic species like the Tororoi Jocotoco, which spend more time walking than flying and makes a sound similar to a dg’s bark. The geographic location allows the are to hold a great variety of animal species like the spectacled bear, felix concolor, mountain lions, the danta, deer, cervicabra, prenadilla, squirrels, chucuri, and more.
Orillas del Zamora National Park. Inside the park you can find: the cartodromo for those who like karts, an orchid that has a great variety of species from the three natural regions of continental Ecuador, a lively humus generator that serves as fertilizer for the gardens that beautify the city, and the municipal zoo that has a variety of mammal, reptile, and bird species.
The Cloud Forest o the Rainbow Reserve. This has a temperate climate where it is possible to find an abundance of flora and fauna. The representative flora of the area is the romerillo (hypericum sp). Regarding the divers bird species there are more than 300 registered species, some of which are endemic and others which migrate. Those that stand out are the Tangar (carapa guinensis), the colancita coliverde, high voiced guan, the bearded guan, the carpenter pardo, the cachudito torito, gralaria coronicastaña, rural gull, green urracam cinclo gorriblaco, among others.
La Fragancia. In this sector there is a mix of Amazon species with Andean elements. The area is characterized by its extraordinary avifauna, where you can observe species like the Tangara Paraiso, the pointed Tangara, the golden Tagara, subtropical cacique, oropendola dorsirrojiza, cabezon cachetiamarillo, batarito cabecigris, red piranda, and others.
