Beaches of soft sand and warm oceans get to know and enjoy Esmeraldas known as theGreen Province” for its exuberant vegetation which also gave name to the precious stone of the same color (emeralds).

Esmeraldas is a parting point to travel the route of the sun, which visits all the majestic coastal beaches of the country, offering a tourist the best lodging options, cuisine, and entertainment.

 

Ethnicity and Folkore Culture Esmeraldas

The Afro-Ecuadorian culture is found spread across different areas of the country.  Esmeraldas has the largest population of afro descendents in Ecuador in addition to mestizos, mulatos, and other ethnicities as the Chachis and the Awas.  The marimba, the cununu, and the guaza are part of the folklore. One of the preferred instruments is the Marimba and the drums, with which they sing and dance to the rhythm of the marimba as they recite the payadores (poems).  Each dance is a story that is recreated with theatrical representations.

Handicrafts Culture Esmeraldas

Handicrafts of the Black Coral: One important artistic handicraft is of the black coral.  Able artisans work this material that is extracted from the ocean, where it is found in abundance.  Bracelets and necklaces are made in a great variety of designs and are in high demand by tourists and visitors.  The Afro-Ecuadorian also make handicrafts such as baskets and pots made from the seeds of tangara.  These handicrafts are exhibited along the beach.

 

The Suicide Cliff Culture Esmeraldas

It’s an extraordinary natural view point formed from calcium that is 80 meters high.  It separates the beaches of Atacames and Sua.  You can cross from one beach to another that borders the cliff by walking through rocks, crabs, and small waves that lets you witness a romantic twilight.

Cayapas-Mataje Ecologic Reserve Nature Esmeraldas

At this reserve you can find the tallest mangroves of the world with diverse species.  The mangrove forests are constituted fundamentally by four types of mangrove: the true or colored, red mangrove, white mangrove, or jeli mangrove.  Lastly there is the black mangrove which has the best tolerance against the sea salt, found on the islands and islets that form the sea and rivers.
Many aquatic species are associated with the mangroves: the male mussel, the female mussel, and oysters among mollusks; the blue crab, the mangrove crab, and shrimp are among the crustation ;  Among the mammals are the pelican or balsa flower and a small ant eater that nourishes itself from the mangrove trees.

Mache-Chindul Ecologic Reserve Nature Esmeraldas

The biodiversity and the landscape resources that the Humid Tropical Forest has are the principal attractions of the reserve Mache-Chindul.  Exotic places with natural waterfalls and pools formed by rivers constitute excellent propositions to a visitor to know the valor and international importance.  It posses an extraordinary richness in plants and animals that is difficult to quantify completely.  It is considered one of the top ten biodiversity hotspots in the world.  The Bilsa is a biological station that holds representative specimens of flora and fauna.  By visiting it you will have the opportunity to know the variety of species that exist on the interior of the area that counts with a station for visitors, students and scientists.

 

Tolita Island (Pampa of Gold) Archeology Esmeraldas

 

his is an interesting archeological zone where there existed one of the oldest pre-Columbian cultures of Ecuador.  The Museum of the Central Bank presents the exhibition of the “Archeological of Ecuador’s Northern Coast,” where the central theme is the Tolita culture.  In this exhibition visitors can observe a great variety of works done in ceramics and metals.  Another of the exhibitions is “The use of coca in ancient Ecuador.”  Tour guides are available.

 

Surf, Diving Adventure Esmeraldas

Surfing can be done on Mompiche beach.

Snorkeling and Diving, without oxygen tanks these aquatic sports can be realized in this surprising paradise of Mompiche, one of the favorite surf spots on the map in the world.

 

Water sking, Windsurf Adventure Esmeraldas

Water skiing, bananas, and boogie boards are offered on the beautiful beach of Atacames. 
Windsurfing is a combination of two sports which are surfing and sailing consists of sailing over the water on a board with a sail carried by the wind which allows you to perform different maneuvers as pirouettes, jumps, and speed.

 

Island of the Birds Avifauna Esmeraldas

The Island of the birds is a permanent refuge of diverse species of birds such as pelicans, heron, gulls, blue footed finches, ducklings, frigate birds, and many more.  Birds rest at this place, reproduce, live, eat, and ultimately die.  This island is formed by sand sediment from the sea currents.  It’s covered by seaweeds that allow the sustenance of crustaceans such as crabs.

 

Atacames, Tomsupa, Mompiche Sun and Beach Esmeraldas

Atacames:
This beach is one of the most visited of the province, concentrating many tourists that come for the charms of the sun, sand, mangroves, sea, and jungle.  It counts with the best hotels, at night Atacames is full of discotheques, bars, and parties for all tastes.  Its traditional bars covered in straw give it a special charm.  In the city there are workshops that make jewelry and decorative objects made from black and red coral obtained from the ocean in addition to handicrafts elaborated from material typical of the area.
An unforgettable vacation waits for you on these beautiful beached with its rich gastronomy, water sports, and nightlife.

Tonsupa:

This beautiful beach is a destination exclusively for relaxing, a place chosen for its precious submarine landscapes.  On the edge of the sea there are found picturesque bars where it is possible to find delicious cocktails, great music, and a festive environment, where after enjoying the beach, food, and sports comes entertainment.

Mompiche

Mompiche is a lovely beach that harmoniously combines with crystal clear waters of the sea and the thick vegetation of the jungle.  It’s the ideal place for surf lovers.  It poses the most extensive waves of Ecuador with almost a kilometer in length.  It is one of the last coastal marine wetlands of Ecuador.  This place has been well kept with species of fauna and flora.

 

Same y Muisne Sun and Beach Esmeraldas

Same Beach.

This enchanting beach is located in between palms and crystalline water. Its waters are very calm and has great hotel infrastructure.  The beach is like a large pool that allows a tourist to bath, swim, and enjoy the tranquility of the ocean.

Muisne Beach.

Muisne is famous for the beauty of its mangrove, it offers a tourist the possibility to travel by boat to various close by tourist spots such as the Island of the Birds.  In addition its beautiful black and white sand beaches captivate with its beauty all who visit it.  It is surrounded with the charm and magic of the afro-Ecuadorians who are dedicated to the elaboration of handicrafts which are exhibited along the beach.
