With a springtime climate, you can find the cities of Zaruma, Portovelo, and Piñas.
Portovelo: is the first mining center and a Cultural Patrimony of Ecuador. It counts with an exuberant natural richness and a vast culture with a rich and varied gastronomy.
Zaruma, Cultural Patrimony of Ecuador, is known as the “Sultan of El Oro,” In this city you can appreciate the colonial architecture of its buildings, which evokes the past of its tradition and culture. Its church is an impressive work from the beginnings of the 20th century and continues to e an inspiration for writers and poets.
Piñas is known as the “Orchard of the Andes,” due to flowers growing naturally at its surroundings.
It offers great ecological adventures. The archipelago is composed of various islands and islets. Traveling through these you can observe stunning landscapes that holds mangroves, crustaceans, and birds that complement the tranquility of this magical place.
Moquillada Waterfall. It is colossal rock form which has been broken by the water through the centuries that has created a channel where water flows.
It is the only one in all of Latin America and is impressive for its petrifies fossils and beautiful landscapes which makes it the ideal place for you to visit. The Petrified Forest of Puyango counts with a surprising paleontological show of marine beings that date from 65 to 500 millions of years. There is also petrified vegetation which has trunks of large diameters.
Zaruma. couns with numerous sites which allows us to get to know the diverse forms of subsistence of the pre-Hispanic cultures such as walls and terraces. There is also found the remains of utensils elaborated with different materials; like human figures made of stone or better known as monoliths.
Archeological Remains of Guanazan. Here you can find some archeological remains like the Tuquin, Paltacao a place for worshipping the gods; the ruins of Guiñazho the cliff of the churches; and also aboriginal remains.
Agrotourism. In the canton of El Guabo you can take the “Banana Tour,” that receives visitors at the plantations where a tourist can familiarize him/herself with the complete banana process. It is to say that a visitor can participate in the harvesting and the packing processes.
The Petrified Forest of Puyango is the ideal place for trekking within the province of el Oro. You can also sport fish here.
Buenaventura Private Reserve. Here you can observe the occidental tropical forest with unique flora and fauna. The reserve has more than 300 bird species and you can take a 13 km excursion, walking through the forest on the Eco-route “Ben Olewine.” Additionally it has one of the most spectacular exhibition of the Long-wattled Umbrella bird.
It is located just five minutes by boat from Puerto Bolivar. A visit here is an experience for all nature lovers and ideal for ornithologist because of the variety of birds that live here.
It has a path of native trees on the slope of Pata Grande or Cerro de Cristo.
It is a privileged corner for its beauty, springtime climate, and beaches that transform the zone into a center of tourism. At 1:30 by boat through the open ocean you can visit the Santa Clara Island of the Isle of the Dead.
It is found 35 minutes from el Guabo and has a beach of 1000 meters, whose waters are ideal for swimming.
